Crafting digital experiences for everyone.

Chris Byrne

Hey , you sure look today! I'm Chris, a UX & UI designer based in Cheshire.

When I'm not designing, you can find me mainly camped in front of my TV playing or watching my beloved Everton FC (usually from behind the sofa).

The secret to a blooming business

A little about me

I design for users

Sure, stakeholders are important but have you ever tried using a website whilst holding a stake? You'll scratch your screen. Designing for users is always my number one focus - low & high fidelity designs, prototypes, demos and workshops are all part of my process - with stakeholders looped in (see, I told you they're important!) and feedback incorporated and welcomed at every stage. I design in Figma, but can design in Sketch too, if you're so inclined.

Mentoring and support

I’ve mentored a number of colleagues in different roles over the years and loved every minute of it. I’m approachable, understanding and patient - I really enjoy being able to use my experience to help colleagues learn, grow and improve. I'm a firm believer in paying things forward - I've had absolutely brilliant mentors throughout my career who've helped me immeasurably.

Creative thinking

Innovation happens when you challenge norms, push boundaries and think a little differently. I like to forge my own path - within reason. No need to reinvent the wheel, man. I also like to keep up with the latest design trends by listening to podcasts, reading blogs and books. Recommendations welcome!

Communication

Being able to effectively communicate concepts and designs is a very important part of my role as a designer - not only to sell ideas to clients, but to help developers understand how the designs should function. I collaborate with developers, other designers and stakeholders using a number of tools including Figma's fancy new Dev Mode.

Experience

    Kootoo

    Lead Designer 2020 - present

I am directly involved from the beginning to end of each of our projects, providing initial quotes and time estimates, producing wireframes, user flows, site maps and site architecture diagrams, right through to the production and presentation of high-fidelity designs to stakeholders, and finally overseeing development, quality assurance and delivery.

I work closely with our development team to maintain our reputation in delivering a very high standard of work across the digital spectrum. To say I’m a stickler for the details is a real understatement.

    N Brown

    UX designer 2018 - 2021

My role involved designing the core shopping journey for multiple brands, as well as leading the design and documentation of NBUX - our internal design system, with a huge focus on accessibility. The latter lead directly into the work on the iOS and Android redesign of each of the N Brown Group apps (Simply Be, JD Williams and Jacamo), and the re-platform and redesign of the Simply Be website - which followed a true mobile-first, user-centric approach.

I worked hand-in-hand with several front-end engineers on each of the projects I was involved in, keeping in regular communication to come up with solutions that took into consideration the technical limitations of each platform. I held fortnightly design showcase meetings to present designs to individual squads and to the business as a whole, taking on feedback to help create a better product for our customers.

At Carbon, my main role was to design fully responsive websites and UI components with a mobile first approach. I also helped run and engage in co-design workshops with clients and colleagues, as well as introducing user research sessions to make well informed design decisions.
